Student Success Story: Mindy

Mindy was an adult learner who returned to school to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration through online classes. Mindy was married with two children and a full time job. Her decision to return to school was based on a requirement from her employer. Shortly after enrolling, her husband was diagnosed with a life threatening condition that required long term hospital stays both locally and out of her area for treatment. She was able to take FMLA (Family Medical Leave) from her job but was required to stay enrolled in classes as her employer was paying for the tuition. Although her grades were excellent before her family crisis, she began failing assignments and missing them altogether. Terrified of loosing her job and the health insurance that was paying for her husband's care Mindy reached out for help.  I connected with Mindy through another site and we developed a long term teacher/student relationship. While I was completing her coursework and earning Dean's List honor's for her at her university she was caring for her husband and her family through their crisis. She graduated with honors, was able to keep her job, and fulfilled her family obligations due to being willing to seek the help she needed. The happy ending to the story was that her husband recovered and attended her graduation with her. Were it not for tutor assistance, Mindy's story may have a very different ending.
